It was a tough decision to decide on what rounded out the #10 spot, but I think I made the right choice. Wild Wild West was a terrible big budget movie and may be Will’s only mistake in choosing movies. But what makes this #10 is the song that came from the movie and the fact that Will was NOT Neo in the Matrix. The song is part Stevie Wonder, part Will Smith and a splash of Sisqo. I also think about the Matrix and how much the movies rock, and how much different they would’ve been with Will. This is the one time I am glad he wasn’t in a movie (Blasphemy).
“You don’t wanna see my hand where my hip be at”
Number 9: I Am Legend
Mixing comedy with action is Will’s trademark, but he’s not a one trick pony. This movie got a lot of hype and for the most part lived up to it. This is #9 because he is one of the only people who can be on screen by himself a whole movie and still captivate an audience.
“What the hell are you doing out here, Fred? Fred, if you're real, you better tell me right now!”
Number 8: Bad Boys 1 & 2
Both of these movies are classic Will.
“Mike Lowwwrrrrrieeeee”
Coming in at #7 is the cockiest song Will ever wrote and one of his best. It also rounds out maybe the best 3 songs in a row on an album in the last 50 years. I have nothing else to say, just watch the video.
Ali is one of the greatest athletes of all time, but those who didn’t get to witness his spectacles don’t understand the magnitude of the events. Enter Will Smith as Ali at #6. Will took this role seriously and proved to the world he didn’t have to crack a joke to make a movie. It helped that Will is about as cocky as Ali was.
“I ain't draft dodging. I ain't burning no flag. I ain't running to
Number 5: Men in Black (movie/song)
Coming in at #5 is the Men in Black movie/song combo. The movie itself would have been further down on the list but a hot track and music vid raise the stakes. Great performances by Tommy Lee Jones, Private Pyle and Rip Torn mixed with Will’s comedy make this a classic.
“Set for pulsar level five, subsonic implosion factor two”
“Noisy cricket gettin wicked on ya”
Number 4: Lost and Found
Many people think of Wills music career as a bunch of singles and songs from movies. Well that is incorrect. Lost and Found is a rare album that can be played in its entirety and not disappoint. It is #4 because it has emotional songs, dance songs, Switch, Mr. Niceguy and his first semi-official f bomb in a song. Snoop Dogg, Mary J Blige, Nicole Scherzinger and Jazzy Jeff all make appearances to make this a legit record.
“It’s a club girl why’d you arrive naked”
Number 3: Fresh Prince
Why is this #3? Because this is where it all started, with Uncle Phil,
“I looked at my kingdom I was finally there, to sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air”
Number 2: Independence Day
Think to yourself, “How many times have I seen this movie?” Now think of how many more times in your life you’re going to watch it. Its one of those movies that can be watched over and over and over and be spectacular every time. Plus it’s on TV everyday. This movie is at #2 because it put Will on the blockbuster map and delivered one of the most epic presidential speeches in cinema history.
“That’s not entirely accurate”
Number 1: Miami/Getting Jiggy Wit It
Originally I was only going to put Miami as #1. But I got to thinking, who am I to leave his most famous song off a top ten list. So this is #1 because it has everything. Big production, hot beats, Eva Mendez, lyrical domination and Will showing off some moves. If you’re out at a bar, head over to the juke box and put either of these on. It’s a sure fire panty dropper and party starter.
“Water so clear you can see to the bottom, 100 thousand dollar cars everybody got em”
"Met Ali he told me I'm the greatest"
I want to thank Will Smith. Out of all the big movies he has done, 44% are him fighting aliens/creatures/robots.
Unbelievable post, props to the prof' for this.
ReplyDeleteI'd replace Ali with Pursuit of Happyness
FYI: Will made $20,000,000 for Hancock, and 20% of gross receipts, which totalled $624,000,000, so in short he made $150,000,000 for Hancock.
