Total Recall - JP made us watch this freshman year. I don't know how we made it through the entire 113 minutes. In case you don't know, this sci-fi flick starring the Governator was actually nominated for 2 Oscars, thankfully winning neither. I think the scene with the quadbreasted alien may have turned off the Academy. If not that, then maybe the "futuristic" cabbies that look like talking mannequins. I've seen better special effects on the Home Shopping Network. I mean, it came out in 1990, but c'mon.
Phenomenom - Saw this in theaters, don't remember much about it other than walking out.
Point Break - Just streamed this the other day on Netflix. It stars two of the cheesiest actors of all time, Keanu and Swazye. It also features the cheesiest sport, surfing, was set in Total Recall-era ('91), and features four surfer dude bank robbers that wear masks of Presidents. Spoiler alert: Swazye is one of them. The scene where Johnny Utah jumps out of the plane with no parachute is cool, but he's doing it to save his beat girlfriend named Tyler. I'm going to go out on a limb and say no broad is worth jumping out of a plane for.
Maid in Manhattan - Took someone on a date in high school and she wanted to see this. Two hours of my life I'll never have back. We did fool around a bit later though, which was nice.

Have to say Phenomenon is a decent movie. The guy can move spoons with his f'n brain, when was the last time you did that? Can you learn Portegeuse in under an hour? Can you?
ReplyDeleteWithout the groundbreaking cinematography found throughout Total Recall, the theatres would never have been graced with other Paul Verhoeven masterpieces such as Basic Instinct, Starship Troopers, and Hollow Man.
